Nailing Gig Charts

Nailing The Gig #1 (with Charts)

Here I show you how to write out a “down and dirty” chart for use on a gig where you don’t have a lot of prep time. This lesson is about nailing a show (without a rehearsal), and how you can prepare your charts to give you all the information you need. No music reading or chart making ability is required for this lesson, just a pen, paper, and set of ears.

This is the first in a series of two lessons that will focus on preparing for a gig. The second lesson, will take a look at how I prepare for a gig when charts are not allowed on stage. In other words, when you must memorize a lot of material in a short amount of time and nail it on stage without a rehearsal. I’m the first to admit, I don’t have a great memory, so if these techniques work for me, they’ll work for you too.
